Who We Are

As part of the Macedonian Community Welfare Association (MCWA), we focus on addressing the needs of individuals from Macedonian backgrounds and heritage in Victoria, through open communication, cultural intelligence and understanding and trust. We understand the importance and relevance of cultural nuances and context, especially in the context of aged care and disability care.

What We Do

Where appropriate, a Cultural Advisor from MCWA will work with individuals from Macedonian cultural heritages and identities and facilitate their coexistence in a culturally diverse community. We take this role very seriously and our cultural advisors have certain skills necessary for the efficient fulfillment of the role, such as the relevant experience and the ability to effectively communicate with people from Macedonian backgrounds and the various cultural differences.

Key Objectives

  • develop and maintain policies and programs which are culturally appropriate and tailored to the specific needs of the individual;
  • develop targeted strategies and projects to better serve the Macedonian community;
  • understand and educate the concerns and needs of the individuals and the broader Macedonian community on both a micro and macro level;
  • effectively communicate with the individuals – both in terms of understanding and being understood;
  • be aware of cultural context, social and cultural nuances and norms when providing services.
